Janari Tonoike

National Australia Bank  Head of Markets

After graduating from Duke University in North Carolina, Ms. Tonoike entered Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. of New York (currently JPMorgan Chase Bank) on September 1984. She completed Morgan’s  Commercial Bank Management Program and was assigned to the Markets Division. For the first 2 years, she was responsible for managing the daily liquidity of the entire bank.

On November 1987, Ms. Tonoike returned to Japan and was given the responsibility to manage the Tokyo branch’s investment portfolio. Subsequently, she moved to the Foreign Exchange Sales section covering large Japanese corporations as well as financial institutions, until being transferred to London in January 1992. From 1992 to date, all positions she has held have been with JPMorgan Securities.

From January 1992 to June 1996, Ms. Tonoike was assigned to the Japan Desk as Fixed Income Sales for roughly two years in each of London and New York, covering Japanese financial institutions. After returning to Tokyo, she was given coverage of Foreign institutional investors for Japanese domestic fixed income products. Outside of that one year, she has always covered Japanese institutional clients for US and European fixed income products. On September 2001, she became Head of Foreign Bond Sales. During 2004, she also served as was head of fixed income sales across Asia.

On January 2010, Ms. Tonoike became senior investor client relationship manager for all of Japan Market’s business in Fixed Income, Equities, and Foreign Exchange. After 2012, she became part of the Investor Client Management team, and was given responsibility for covering Japanese financial institutional clients globally. From November 2015 to date, she has served as the Head of the Asia Pacific Investor Client Management team.

After retiring from JPMorgan on December 2018, joined SVP Global Asia LLC as Adviser.

On January 2019, joined National Australia Bank as Head of the Markets Business
