Until his sad death near the end of 2011, Mr. Grondine was a member of the Bars of New York, Massachusetts, California, and the District of Columbia. He was also a registered foreign lawyer (gaikokuho jimu bengoshi) in Japan. Mr. Grondine graduated Magna Cum Laude with an A.B. from Dartmouth College, and a JD, Magna Cum Laude from Boston University School of Law. He had broad experience in commercial transactions between Japan and the US, as well as globally for Japanese companies. Mr. Grondine specialized in M&A/corporate, asset finance, corporate and project finance, and dispute resolution/international arbitration. In 2004, he became a Professor of Law at Keio Law School, teaching corporate finance, M&A/global alliance, and international business transactions. Mr. Grondine was ranked for over fifteen years as a leading lawyer in Japan and a leading lawyer in Asia in Chambers Global, IFLR, Who’s Who, Best Lawyer, Asia Pacific Legal 500, and other publications, in the areas of M&A, asset finance, project finance, bank finance (representing both lenders and borrowers), and dispute resolution.
Mr. Grondine was an enthusiastic supporter of BDTI from the time of its formation until he passed away in October of 2011. Many grieved his death.
